About Me

My name is Christine Gaudette, I am a 57 years old non-traditional student. I am from Kane’ohe on the island of O’ahu. My interests are helping people and getting educated. This has been a journey for me. The reason I say this is because when I was in school, I did not attend school at all. I had others doing my work for me while I spent my days surfing, selling drugs, and fighting with others. So, I truly did not know what a classroom looked like until I became a student at Leeward Community College. It was at this time I got a rude awakening, meaning I found out that I had to do my own work and there was no one to do my work for me like in the past. Also, I realized that I was actually capable of doing my own work and I was actually only cheating myself of a proper education. When I first came to Leeward Community College I had to take a placement test, my score projected that I had a 2.6 GPA, after completing my first semester of college, my GPA increased to 3.0 and I was overwhelmed with excitement and joy because I realized that I was capable of doing the work. College life is not easy, there is a lot of studying involved, but I tell you it is worth it.  My second semester really helped to confirm that I made the best choice in life of returning to school after over 38 years because I completed my semester with all “A’s”. This I definitely know that I would not have been able to accomplish without God in my life. All the glory belongs to God!!!

In 2018, one of my friends was talking about how she really enjoyed coming here to Leeward Community College Wai’anae and how encouraging everyone is here, so she actually talked me into attending. I began Spring 2018 and lo and behold, she was right, I actually fell in love with Leeward Community College. It made me really regret not attending school when I was younger. Now that I am here at Leeward Community College Wai’anae I am actually fascinated to learn all that I can. The friendly staff and AMAZING Professors here make me WANT to come to school. I know I have to be present at every class, do ALL my homework, etc. to get good grades, but here at Leeward Community College Wai’anae, I WANT TO, I look forward to coming, it’s just a great school, there is no other like it.

At the beginning, my goal was to just get my certificate/associates in Social Work, but after my first semester I said to myself, “why stop there?”.  Now I have changed my major to Psychology, instead of just going for an Associate’s degree I am now going for my Masters/Ph.D…

This is my third semester and the classes I am taking are ICS 101, HSER 140, Speech 251, and Theater 221. I am still loving it! I highly recommend everyone to enroll here at Leeward Community College Wai’anae because if the professors, staff members, and the environment can make an impact on me and keep me wanting to come back, this has to be an awesome school, not to mention, I have learned so much and in many different ways.

With all that I have accomplished in this short period and all that I planned academically, I can see myself accomplishing all my goals. My vision of being a psychologist is looking brighter and brighter every day. Thanks to my Lord and savior, the Professors and Staff at Leeward Community College Wai’anae, and the family-oriented environment they have created.
